The new year is all about embracing new things, trying new experiences, and … shaking up your look with a fresh new hair style.
If 2023 was the year of ‘low maintenance’, then 2024 will see that trend and raise the stakes! The Vanilla Room team predict Vanilla Room clients will adore this new take on ‘All Natural’ and stylists are excited to see ‘Texture’ and ‘French Bob’ trends topping the 2024 client request charts too.
Keep scrolling for our predictions, and how best to wear them – inspired by our favourite runway and celebrity trends with the Vanilla Room’s famous wearable take for everyday glamour.
All Natural
Jennifer Anniston is famous for elaborate blow-dries and poker straight lengths. We all adored the ‘Rachel’ back in the day, but like her, we’ve tired of daily hair styling processes that are time consuming and damaging.
That’s why we think the natural vibe will be a welcomed shift. Rather than perfectly crafted styles, we’re expecting a rise in natural hair textures, including air-dried curls and imperfect lengths.
To absolutely nail this look, you’re going to need to update your hair kit with an all-star mousse. We recommend the Shu Uemura AWA Volume Mousse. It’s the best at providing maximum hair volume and body without the crunchy residue. Results in a silky finish with a smooth touch and natural shine. Simply add a generous amount to towel-dried hair and you’re good to go!
True Texture
We’ve had enough of straightening our hair into oblivion and disguising our real hair texture. It’s so much work! And so, we expect to see a lot more people accepting their natural texture this year.
The True Texture trend is about embracing your hair’s natural movement and enhancing it through choppy cuts, long layers, curtain fringes and purposely ‘undone’ hairstyles that exude effortless chic. And who doesn’t love effortless?
The trick here is to utilise texturisers. There’s plenty to choose from but our top pick is the L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Pli Shaper. This heat activated spray delivers shape, memory and root lift. It’s great when blow-drying to create a long-lasting bounce with soft texture and a natural feel.
French Bob
The 2024 French Bob is more laid-back and unstyled. We predict that clients will shift from sharp, precision cuts to a more natural style with a wearable undone vibe. The versatility of the French Bob ensures it’s flattering for everyone and never goes out of style.
When precision cut by an expert TVR stylist, the style pretty much takes care of itself. This means you won’t need to spend as much time styling it. In fact, the French Bob looks stunning when slicked back and wet, plus air drying adds to its messy appeal.
To get the most out of your textured hair, we suggest opting for the L’Oréal Professionnel TECNI.ART Web, a sculpting fibrous paste to mould, shape and define the hair with a natural-looking shiny finish. On dry hair, run a nut-sized amount of product through the strands, plumping it up as you go.
