What are Tape extensions? And who are they suitable for?
Tapes extensions are a semi-permanent method that needs to be re-fitted every 6-8 weeks, using the same hair several times over. This makes them a good choice when time and cost are an important factor.
Tape hair extensions are fitted in pairs with some of you own hair sandwiched in the middle and are a great way to bulk out areas of your look, or to add colour effects. For lengthening your hair, you simply add more pairs to your look. Tapes are a great option for instantly creating a different hairstyle or correcting haircut that is not as you desired.
Tape hair is extremely comfortable to wear, lays flat to the head and is quick and easy to fit and remove in salon. With the correct maintenance and placement tapes are invisible, even when hair is tied back.
Are tapes available with Great Lengths premium hair?
Yes, they are amazing. Great Lengths Tapes are unique great lengths hair quality. The hand blended colours look supremely natural integrating easily into your own. To maintain the integrity of the medical grade adhesive strip of Great lengths tapes, they can be retaped up to 3 times with 6 to 8 weeks in between visits. This means that with the correct homecare you can go for over 6 months without the need to purchase more hair.

Great lengths tapes do not fade in the same way as your own hair colour does, they stay at the shade you purchase, so for the best colour match your initial consultation should be scheduled for when you like your colour best.
Can I colour my hair with tapes in?
Yes, you can. If you need to colour your regrowth with the tapes in – then it is best to simply work around and avoid them to keep the joins sealed. Remember to keep your tapes looking their best, they are coming out temporarily at 6-8 weeks, so this is the ideal time to full colour your own hair.
Tapes are quick to remove, so we can schedule your colour easily around this. Ideally, we pop the tapes out and do your full root colour, before leaving at least 48 hours for the new colour in the tape attachment area to settle. This is essential to create the best adhesion of Great lengths tapes. Then you come back in for the reapplication, which is super quick as the tapes are already cut to your style. For Hi-lighted affects that are not so frequently maintained, we can just work in the free areas around where the tapes are placed or if it’s time for a full head hi-light refresh, pop the tapes out, have the colour maintained then follow the 48 hour rule to settle the chemical in the hair before you visit us and the tapes go back in.
Can I change the colour of my Tapes?
Yes. We can go up to 2 shades darker or we can change the tone. We cannot bleach them (and who would want to? It’s expensive hair!).
The fact that Great Lengths hair does not fade in colour is extremely useful when using extensions to create colour effects such as lighter pieces in darker hair that would not be achievable or may compromise the condition of your own hair – Tapes are the ideal solution.

Can I have longer hair using Tapes?
Yes. We offer tape extensions from our partner brands, Great Lengths and Beauty Works and can therefore find you a perfect colour match and desired length. Beauty Works tapes are available in up to 28 inches for bulking out extreme length and these can be re-taped and reused many times when you look after them correctly using the Beauty works homecare, that will be provided as part of your service package.

This includes initial consultation appointment, application on the day, full kit of Great Lengths homecare products and a check-up appointment 2-3 weeks after application should this be required.
With so many variations of length available in tapes pricing quotes need to be bespoke to you. As we only use human 100% Remy hair, the longer the tapes are the cost can vary greatly, which makes sense as it took the hair doner longer to grow. When you visit us for a consultation and colour match, we will then be able to give you a personalised quote once we have checked availability of the hair from our partner brands.
Can Tapes be used as hair fillers?
Yes. We place the tapes in the areas that you need filling out and have two different service options.
Midi fill – 1 pack of tapes– this will give enough additional hair fillers to thicken sides or subtly enhance density throughout.
Maxi Fill – 2 packs of tapes– this will give enough additional hair fillers to create weight and structure in a finished style and plump up the overall look. Twice as much hair than the midi fill.
Both Midi and Maxi fill services include Great Lengths homecare kit worth £65 to keep your fillers in the best condition.

Beauty works tapes used as fillers require a bespoke quote due to the variation of hair lengths available.
What else do I need to know?
Olaplex or other bonding treatments are not suitable to be used on tape extensions whilst placed on the head as they deteriorate the tape join. You can use Olaplex in your colour processing whilst your tapes are out and allow 48 hours before your hair is shampooed with the correct product pre re-application.
Oil based hair colours are not suitable to be used with extensions.
Brazilian Keratin treatments or deep conditioning treatments should not be used for 7 days before application of tape extensions.
10 golden rules to maintain your tapes at home.
- Do no shampoo for at least 48 hours after application. Wash your hair in shower not over the bath.
- Always dry the attachment site before applying any tension to the hair. If the attachment site is not dried it can stretch, separate or pull down easily when combing or blow drying.
- Do not apply conditioner on the tapes attachment site, apply to ends only. Do not apply oily shampoos, silicones, oils or oily styling products directly on the attachment site.
- Brush over your Great Length tape at least 1 time per day with a great lengths brush. Your tapes are made of human hair, so some tangling is absolutely normal.
- If you do wear a ponytail and the tapes turn slightly or fold, you can hold the tapes gently down when blow drying (medium heat only) and they will lie down or unfold.
- Do not go to bed and leave the hair wet. Always tie hair in a loose braid or ponytail before going to bed to prevent hair from tangling.
- Activities taking pace in a constant damp environment such as aerobics, steam baths or saunas, may lessen the longevity of Great Lengths tapes service, precaution should be taken to avoid these conditions being repeated.
- Sea water and pools can cause tapes slippage due to the constant damp environment. To minimise the tapes from absorbing sea water or pool chemicals, wet the hair completely and apply Great Lengths conditioner to the ends only. After swimming, shampoo and blow dry the attachment site.
- Curling irons, flat irons and hot ollers maybe used, but must be kept an adequate distance from tapes, approximately 1 ½ inches from the attachment site. Medium heat on attachment site only. Do not apply excessive tension to the tapes when drying.
- Book you next appointment before leaving. This will keep you on schedule and your tapes looing their best.
