From the mullet (yes, you heard us right!) to the blunt bob, the best summer 2023 hair trends feature a range of versatile styles to get you looking and feeling your best. We always look to celebrities for hair and fashion inspiration, so it’s no surprise that when we’re feeling a new ‘do, we consider the styles our favourite celebs are loving right now – they are the trend setters after all!
In this blog, five The Vanilla Room stylists share their predictions on the hair trends that will be most sought-after this season.
Art Director Sam – The Mullet
A mullet is a haircut that is short on the sides and longer on the top and back, creating a ‘tail’ towards the base of the skull. Art Director loves creating this look for clients, she says, “Best results are achieved on dry hair. I always blow-dry first, helping to make those choppy angles blend with the hairs natural texture.” We loved seeing Charlize Theron sport this trend in the chicest way possible with a jet-black mullet!
Creative Stylist Chloe – The Blonder the Better
Creative Stylist Chloe predicts a wave of blonde in the coming weeks. She says, “Whether it’s balayage, highlights or baby lights, the sunshine tends to bring out the blonder side in clients and my ladies can’t get enough!” Taking inspiration from Jodie Comer’s blonder locks, which she showcased on Instagram, anyone can adapt the blonde trend for their hair. Choose between platinum, caramel or strawberry blonde tones to suit your hair texture and skin tone.
Creative Stylist Charlotte – Occasion Hair
Our occasion hair expert, Creative Stylist Charlotte, finds the summer months a perfect time to experiment with different hairstyles. For example, the incredible Elizabeth Olsen slick back bun up-do at the Oscars – simple yet elegant. Charlotte says, “The secret to achieving this look is to use high quality products. A mousse or gel helps you to scrape back the fly away hairs, keeping them in position all night. My favourite occasion hair brand is Shu Uemura, they have a brilliant range of styling products, suited for all hair types.”
Master Stylist Kirsty – The Blunt Bob
Master Stylist Kirsty loves the blunt bob – a short haircut that typically ends as a straight, sharp edge. With sleek hair styles already on trend, the bob is no exception. A favourite must be Jennifer Lopez’s bob for the Rolling Stones front cover, a true statement piece! To achieve the blunt look Kirsty advises an individual approach dependent on the type of hair a client has. “If you have thinner hair, you’ll want to opt for a shorter chop to help your hair appear fuller. For those with thicker hair, don’t go too short as it can make your hair look poofy. Instead, think about a cut that falls just above your shoulders to avoid your mane being weighed down by too much length.”
Master Stylist Alev – Embrace the Natural Side
Master Stylist Alev expects to see people embracing their own natural hair texture in these warmer months. Alex says, “Instead of fighting your natural hair type, go with it. The heat can do funny things to our hair, but we must take care of it.” Leading the way is Jennifer Aniston who snapped a picture of her natural, beach wavy honey blonde locks. If you want to protect and enhance your natural waves, try using a sea salt spray. The KMS Hairplay Sea Salt spray is the perfect product to create just-out-of-the-ocean texture whilst still providing fullness.
