Thinning hair, hair loss, or alopecia, is more common than you may think. In fact, a recent study L’Oréal revealed that one in three of us now have thinning hair, with a sixth of those surveyed having lost hair before the age of 30.
“The reasons we experience hair loss are varied”, says Art Director George. “I’ve been hairdressing for over 20 years and I’ve supported clients facing gradual, genetic thinning, hair loss following the birth of a child; to a more sudden loss of hair because of extreme stress, a medical condition or chemotherapy”.
Maria, who lives with Trichotillomania also referred to as “hair-pulling disorder,”, is a client of Capture Clinic Stylist Charlotte. She recently opened up on Instagram, sharing her honest experiences of the distressing condition and confidence loss. We love her attitude, and as she puts it, how she handles a life that is ‘Trichy’…
“23 years of hair in hand, strand by strand. Tears, tantrums, broken friendships and relationships, and strange looks. Sometimes unaware but almost always accompanied by my hair in hand.
Today I have a new look. It’s not driven by trends, fashion accessories or social pressures because let’s be honest today’s society is one we simply cannot keep up with and I have no interest in doing so.
The purpose of hair is to provide protection and regulation of our body temperature – and oh my am I toasty!
Your hair is your crown and glory, and today my head is up, and my hands are down, for now.
To my family, friends , boyfriend, and my amazing dog Sir Michael Caine – the support you have provided throughout all the years means more to me than you will ever know – you are all simply amazing.
Today, Tomorrow, and for time unknown – I have Trichotillomania.
Now I’m still asking myself ‘Is this really MY hair’? 💁♀️
I am still in shock at how these Great Lengths tapes have not only transformed my hair but also my self-confidence.
A lot of people whom I have met throughout my life have made the comment that I am very confident in myself – the truth is for the last 15 years or so my self-confidence has plummeted. I am the master of disguise – both internal and external.
I struggled to make eye contact with people, cancelled nights out, gained weight, lost weight, and spent far too much money on materialist items all in an attempt to make myself feel better about my self-destruction.
Truth is no amount of money can buy happiness. Yes, I did pay money for these extensions but what I didn’t pay for is the new found self-respect and confidence I have as part of this process.
I have noticed a drastic difference in my behaviours around my hair.
A massive thank you to Charlotte and the Vanilla Room Capture team – not only have you created beautiful hair but you’ve created a beautiful new found self-respect in me for me and that is utterly priceless”.
