Embrace Your Curls
We love when you embrace your curls! And, we love to see a massive upsurge in clients embracing their curls and visiting the salon for some no-nonsense advice from our styling team. Let’s give you the headline tips for classy curls.
You do not need to go to a specialist ‘Curly girl salon’
BUT you do need products designed specifically for curly hair and a stylist to advise you on the best way to combine them to maximise your curls. Curly hair products contain ingredients that encourage the ‘spring’ in the curl or ‘relax’ the curl depending on your individual need. Trying them first in salon avoids costly buying mistakes to find the right fit for you. We have specialist curly products in Davines, Keune and Kerastase and often we layer two or more in combination to get the correct mix to encourage your curl pattern.
Moisture is key
For curls to bounce you need flexibility in the hair. We recommend Kerastase Curl manifesto shampoo and fondant as these are designed specifically with moisture in mind. In the salon we can combine these with a fusio dose treatment from the same range to spring curls back into action.
Previous straightening with heat tools will damage your curls
If you have been straightening with irons or continuous blow drying then do not expect your curls to come back to life at the first wash. This is because the stretching out of curls will cause damage to the internal structure of the hair and this takes time to repair and for the curl pattern to reform. Persevere and use a curl primer such as Davines Love curl, which we use in salon. A primer will do just that ‘prime’ the curls to be in the best state adding moisture before you apply a styling product to create hold and a serum for shine.
Mousse is your friend
All of our Stylists agree a good curl enhancing mousse is a must. We love Davines curl bosting mousse as it is not too sticky and easy to work with. If you prefer a crème then try Keune’s spring loaded, which still packs a good level of hold.
Use a diffuser
Attach a diffuser to your hair dryer with the rule of thumb of ‘high heat and slow speed’ on most dryers this is the best setting for creating curls. You need heat to spring the hair into action and in most cases the slower setting reduces the temperature of your dryer, so you can put it on high when diffusing. If the hair is too hot to handle, then simply reduce. Allow the hair to fall away from the head by tilting or turning yourself upside down then let the hair pile into the diffuser and push this up towards the scalp. Try not to touch the hair until it is fully dry, as this causes frizz. When you are all dry, tip your head up then gently scrunch the curls to loosen.
If you are scared to experiment, then why not use your Treat card points on a complimentary blow dry and let our team demonstrate just how good your curls can look.
