The hair care market can be so confusing, you want volume at the root but to fight the frizz in the lengths – how can that happen? You want event hair that lasts but do not want your hair to look like it has any product in it? Where do you start with that? Let us explain how to create long lasting hair styles by layering haircare products. The Stylists secret to fabulous hair.
Let’s start with a bathroom overhaul before your next salon visit – take some photos of the products you already have and be brave and show them to your Stylist – no judgement from us. From there we can advise to what else you may need to create the types of looks you desire. It can be expensive making buying mistakes so we can give directions as to how to work with what you have got and how to use them for best results. We can then show you how and what we would use as stylists and prioritise the next item to add to your hair kit when you are ready to purchase or it comes up on your TVR Treatcard points. There are some real gems that we use in salon, that you may not realise exists and the best bit of all is that you get to try them out during your visit – without commitment. See how the look lasts, how it feels and experience them for yourself.
We want your hair to look fabulous every day, which is why we have partnered with more than one professional haircare brand to produce the looks you require. All our brands have something in common – they are designed to be layered. Using more than two products to prep and style hair on top of any shampoo and conditioners used on washing is completely the now days norm. What looks like a simple straight blow dry finish can see a stylist using a leave in conditioner, a curl control crème, a heat protection product, a serum, plus the correct brush and straightening irons! On one weekly blow dry client, we counted seven products alone!
When asked why, the Stylist Kerry said “Despite the fact that I blow dry this hair every week and know how it falls, I cannot miss one product out as I do not get the same result. I start with Keune High Rise root lifting mousse for hold, then a KMS volumizer to thicken the ends, I use a heat retaining brush from GHD and a VARIS bristle brush at the front. When dry I add a texturizing powder to the root for hold – Star dust by Keune – fabulous stuff, power paste to define the ends and then Tec Ni Art – Fix anti frizz spray for a final hold then when dry. The layering creates the longevity of the look”.
The layering of products means you specifically target the area of concern, using a smaller amount, so the product lasts longer however the ‘hair kit’ generally has more bottles in it. What this leads to is you being able to create more bespoke looks just like we do in the salon, adjusting the amount of hold, where you want lift and where the hair needs controlling for salon looking hair at home.
Ask your stylist how many products they use on your hair – you may be surprised and find the solution to your home styling challenge. At The Vanilla Room we only stock for retail, what we use in the salon. We cherry pick our favourites from each brand and come to these decisions through lots of education, practice and discussion as to what works best in combination. We have done the hard work for you and can help you to avoid mistakes and get the perfect products for you.
